Alexander McDowell McCook (1831-1903) was a career United States Army officer and a Union general in the American Civil War. McCook became a full brigadier general in 1890, a major general in 1894, and retired in 1895. One of his final actions before retirement was helping send Army troops to break up the 1894 Chicago railroad strike. Typed Letter Signed “A.M. McCook” 1pp, on Headquarters Department of the Colorado letterhead, written to General Martin McMahon. Datelined: Denver, April 11, 1894, in small part “There being a vacancy in the office of Commissary of Soldier’s Home at Santa Monica, I commend to you for office Colonel W.E. Morford ...”
