A good pair of war-date CDVs of the slave octoroon Fannie Virginia Casseopia Lawrence of Virginia who was saved from slavery even though one eighth black. On the lower margin of the full standing CDV is the photographer's imprint by C. S. Lawrence, New York and caption: "A redeemed SLAVE CHILD, 5 years of age. Redeemed in Virginia, by Catherine S. Lawrence; Baptized in Brooklyn, at Plymouth Church, by Henry Ward Beecher, May, 1863."Clipped corners, else very good. The bust view image has never been published and bears the photographer's imprint of Erekson & Lee, Bridgeport, Conn. with a three-cent tax stamp on the verso. Negligible emulsion blemish in the field, else very good. (2 pieces)
