A good war-date Confederate soldier's 1p. 4to., letter written in ink by Pvt. Robert M. Harris, Co. K, 2nd Virginia Cavalry, Camp near Leesburg. [Va.], Nov. 20, 1861 to his brother concerning his settling into service in a Virginia cavalry regiment, reading, in part: "…send my coat. I don't think I can do without it…send me two good heavy blankets…one saddle blanket. My horse's back is a little sore…we signed the pay roll today…I heard something about our troops coming home this winter…you must not let my dogs follow Harry. They will never stay home if they follow him. You must hunt with my dogs…there is a plenty of foxes down here…General Stuart took 40 prisoners yesterday without firing a gun…". Harris enlisted Oct. 11, 1861 as a substitute. He served faithfully throughout the war, and was wounded three times before being paroled in May 1865. Also included is the original stampless cover. Various tape repairs with some fold splits, else very good.
