A great war-date Confederate order, 1p. 4to., in manuscript, issued by Asst. Adjt. Gen. George Garrison, Jones Farm, Peninsula, [Va.], April 9, 1862, to Lt. Col. Fletcher H. Archer, reading, in part: "…one vidette is not sufficient to do the service from Capt. Delagent's Battery to Smithfield, you will please make a detail from the…cavalry…an additional vidette to aid the one on duty…". It is certain that Archer added the patrol since it is he is credited with stopping the Union advance against Petersburg in mid June 1864 with only 125 old men and boys. Near fine.
