A 1p. 8vo., ink inscribed letter date lined: Tunnel Hill, Ga., Sept. 24, 1863 to his brother, reading, in part: "…Thinking you may feel a little anxious about brother Washington and myself…I left Marietta Monday evening after you left, but did not get to my command until Thursday morning about 1 o'c. We were on the march or in line of battle until we were engaged on Saturday evening about 3 o'c. Our brigade was not under fire more than one half hour before we were ordered to return which we did. I had my ankle bruised by a piece of shell but it will be well in a few days. Had one man killed and some 14 others wounded. Brother Washington is safe. I have a chance to send this by hand to Mobile. Send this to Nannie…I have written to her, but I don't know when she will get it. Your affect. Brother in haste - S.C. Wilkerson…". A rare letter as letters from the battle of Chickamauga seldom appear in the marketplace. VG
