A very rare war-date partly-printed Confederate POW furlough issued to Pvt. William H. Mims, Co. A, 2nd Georgia Battalion Infantry, 1p. 5 3/4" x 7 1/2", HEADQUARTERS DEPARTMENT OF RICHMOND, Special Orders, Richmond, Va., Feb. 16, 1865, reading, in part: "In obedience to instructions from the Secretary of War, the following named men (paroled prisoners) are granted furloughs for Sixty (60) days (unless sooner exchanged) at the expiration of which time they will…rejoin their respective commands; otherwise they will report, in person, at the Camp of Paroled Prisoners, Richmond, Virginia, or Camp of Instruction, at Macon, Georgia…NOT TO GO WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER…W. H. Mims 2nd Ga. Batl. Infy. By order of Lieut. General Ewell…". Signed by Lt. Thomas Theodore Turner, A. A. G. to Ewell. Docketed and stamped by three other Confederate officers and railroads corresponding with Mims travel home. Usual wear from being carried on Mims person with some weak folds, else very good.
