Autograph Letter Signed, “John N. Peed”, 2p. octavo, pencil, Camp Co. I, 9th Va. Cav. Sussex Co, Virginia, December 16, [1863?] in part: “...Well there is not much news about from this portion of the army, everything seems to be quiet. Uncle John has happened to a very serious misfortune his mare died last night. She was taken very lame on the return from the pursuit of the enemy the first of the week & had to leave her on the road at a private house. I have just returned from the house where he left her & found her dead. I don’t think I ever was so sorry for a poor creature in my life as I was for him....” VG.
