Autograph Letter Signed, “S.R. Nuckols”, 4th Virginia Cavalry, had two horses killed beneath him, paroled 4/28/1865, 2p. octavo, Camp 4th Va. Cavalry, May 18, 1864, and reads in part: “...I went to the fifth Regt. as soon as I got back and saw one of Merry’s Company who was captured when Merry was but got away from them afterwards, he says Merry was quite well and had left his name at a house to be sent to the Dispatch...his horse and baggage are now with the Regt....I heard from Billie Woodson yesterday he was wounded in the arm & leg, I reckon his folks has heard from him before this as the list of the wouded in his Regt. has been published...” VG.
