Autograph Letter Signed, “J.A. Yonce” 51st Virginia Infantry, taken Prisoner of War at Waynesboro in March 1865, sent to Ft. Delaware where he died in April, 1865 of pneumonia, letter is 2p. octavo, Camp near Glade Spring, October 8, 1864, and reads in part: “...it [hearing from home] is a great consolation to me while far from home amid the scens of war and desolation surrounded by the evil influence of a soldiers life...I want you to let Bettie have some jeans for my pants. I would like to get enough for one pair...Our quartemaster has gone to Dublin for clothing but I am afraid he will not get us much...it is getting too cold for men to do without clothes but we might draw enough...” VG.
