Autograph Letter Signed, “Jacob Sterrett” 11th Ohio, Died of Wounds received at Chickamauga, 4p. octavo, June 22, Camp Dennison, and reads in part: “...the 3d &4th Regts left last night for Virginia or Washington...we received marching orders...to be armed and equipped only the flanking companies gets rifles. I suppose the rest will have to fight with our old muskets. Our Reg. will be filled up tomorrow with Com. from Camp Jackson our Com’s filled up with boys from the 13th Reg. We have 87 in our Com. officers in all we was mustered in Thursday by an officer from Newport & the sergeants and Corporals was appointed by the Capt. I was promoted to the high office at Corporal & a man from the 13th Reg was appointed Sergeant the Corporals gets $200 dollars more a month than the privates...news from the Regs that left the German Reg was fired into by a masked battery between Alexandria and the Ohio River and it is reported that 120 was killed and several wounded...” with ALS by comrade O.S. Murray on verso of last page. Fine.
