STONE, Charles Pomeroy (1824-1887) Union general who was charged with the debacle at Ball’s Bluff and was arrested and imprisoned without ever being charged by the Radicals in Congress who found him unfit on the question of slavery. Autograph Letter Signed, “Chas. P. Stone Col. Comdg.” 1p. octavo, Hd Qrs, 7th Brigade, July 14, 1861, addressed to Colonel Cake of the 25th Pennsylvania, and reads “ You will pleas have your men breakfasted, tents struck, wagons packed, & be ready to march at 4 1/2 o’clock a.m. tomorrow. Company cooks will be awakened in ample time to prepare breakfast. All the men except the cooks will be in bed at an early hour tonight that they may be fresh for the march...” Fine.
