Autograph Letter Signed, “David G. Bagley, Co. B. 19th Me. Regt.” KIA at the Wilderness, May 6, 1864, 3p. octavo, Fort Baker, Washington, September 18, 1862, with fine patriotic cover ‘The Girl I Left Behind Me.’, it reads in part: “…We are now quartered in Fort Baker about one mile & a half from Washington city…staying in a fort is like staying in State’s Prison. We can neither see nor hear anything that going on. We got started for the battle field once and got within about 10 miles of the battle where we could hear the cannons roaring & see the smoke rising & it scared the Colonel so he went clear back to Washington to headquarters to see if he could get off and not go so he kept us marching all day without anything to eat…” VG.
