Autograph Letter, 3p. octavo, pencil, complete but unsigned, Camp Williams, Louisiana, September 3, 1862, and reads in part: “...we are now in camp 3 miles from where we was last May camp Parapet near Lake Paunchetrain and 5 miles from N. Orleans in a frog swamp or Aligators hole where mud is knee deep at the present time...we do not get any good water ...Since we came here Gen. Butler has made us a visit and paid us the 7th a compliment of being Damn Cowards at the Battle of Baton Rouge and took our colors from us telling us that they never could be restored until we went into action & showed our self worthy of the same. It made some hard feeling in the Regt came near laying down arms...at the Battle there was not only 225 men i nthe Reg that came out the rest was sick...Majr Holbrooks is acting as Col and Capt Peck as Lieut. Col....” VG.
