Very nicely penned 4 page letter from a youngster (either high school or beginning of college) to his cousin who was likely the same age). 4 pages. Datelined “Richmond. Feb. 12, 1862” (Note: Richmond MAINE…and not VA.)… “GOOD NEWS tonight from Gen’l Burnside. He is from Rhode Island and that makes me love him better for that. He has made the Rebels run like fun. I like your envelope very well, but the Rebel flag makes me think too much of Jeff Davis. It fairly makes my blood boil to think of him. I would like to shoot at him once. I would pepper his sides for him. It would take him quite awhile to pick the lead out of his side. Lead is reused [ ? ] a good deal now down South. I do not think it is right to fight so, but Jeff commenced it and now we will end it and so I say put the Rebels [to their end].” …Writes of weather still being too warm as “…We have not had much sleighing this winter…it snowed [only] a little this morning” also writes: “…as for the girls you spoke, about I have no particular one at present. …And have not got anyone’s picture for you.” …Bold signature “J. W. P. King.” Normal lightest aging. Exc. +. A few tiny short tears on edges of the right margin from where folded, but not affecting any letters or words.
