A finely illustrated war-date Union soldier's 1p. 4to., letter written in ink by Pvt. Isaac D. Turner, Co. C, 1st Connecticut Cavalry, Fort McHenry, Md., Sept. 1, 1862 to his sister describing conditions at Fort McHenry and the 18th Connecticut, reading, in part: while I write this I hear that the Gen. who commands this fort has had a telegram…to the effect there is a very fighting going on…this afternoon never the vicinity of Bull Run…the 18th Conn. Regt. is now at this fort…they are doing guard duty & protecting it & at the same time are making themselves more perfect in drill…". Turner wrote his letter on the last page of the letter sheet thereby not marring first page's finely detailed copper plate engraving, entitled: FORT MCHENRY, BALTIMORE, MD., BRIGADIER GENERAL W. W. MORRIS COMMANDING THE POST, showing the interior of the fort bustling with military activity. The print with engraved and copyrighted by Sachse & Company, Baltimore in 1862. Negligible spotting, else very good.
