Autograph Letter Signed, “Hugh M. Ives” 6th Connecticut Infantry, 4p. octavo, “6th Conn. Vols ‘B’, Hilton Head, November 28, 1863, with cover, with illustration of a Confederate flag, and reads in part: “...The Lieut Col. is in command, we have no Colonel at present. Chatfield was Col. but died from his wounds received in teh charge upon Fort Wagner. Lieut Col. Redfield Duryee is our Colonel. My Captain is by teh name of Prouty Angus has not written me yet....Will you get Dr. Guernsey to give you for me medicine for Chronic Diarehea which has taken fast hold upon me, it made its appearance the fourth day after ‘I landed’ nothing but blood and a kind of mucuse or slime passes me it keeps me running constantly to the rear. My bowells are cramped and I have to wait stoop down before I can go the pain is intolerable and I am in much agony....I am on picket 3 times a week and I have a chance to see the Rebels [with illustration of CSA flag]...they wave over the land of the free and the slave...” Fine.
