Autograph Letter Signed, “A.B. Monohan” Surgeon in the 63rd Ohio Infantry, 4p. quarto, Head Quarters 63rd OVI, Memphis, Tennessee, September 28, 1863, and reads in part: “...Can you not devote much of your time in conversing with that class of men who are right at heart, but who are likely to vote for Vallandingham, if there is not special effort made to induce them to vote otherwise. Bushwacking is the most successful mode of meeting these men...I am of opinion that the greatest calamity that could befall us at this time would be the election of Vallandigham by teh people of Ohio....good will come out of our apparent defeat of Rosecrans. He is defeated but not crushed, a few weeks and he will have at his command the finest army the world has ever beheld adn one before whom the rebels will melt away in shame and defeat...” VG.
