A great war-date Preacher's, 4pp. 8vo., letter written in ink by Charles A. Bondage who was a preacher from upstate New York, Winchester, [Va.], April 9, 1865 to his wife concerning a colored prayer meeting that was attended by members of the Christian Commission as well a Union soldiers, reading, in part: "…last Sabbath Louis & I were invited by a…class leader & citizen of the town to meet with his class…at his house but…Louis was called to preach…to the signal corps about one mile away. I was left alone for the class…after which I came home…[I] had just time enough to get around to the colored class meeting…if I ever saw a happy, noisy class of Methodists in my life it was then. There must have been 30 or 60 of them, 6 dellogates of the Chris[tian] Com[mission] & about as many soldiers. It was a busy working meeting, speaking, singing & shouting…it lasted 3 hours…the class leader a white man…called on me to close by prayer which I did…". Also included is the original stamped transmittal cover. Light toning, else very good.
