Autograph Letter Signed, “Joseph Daniels” 4p. quarto, Fort Union, New Mexico, February 5, 1864, and reads in part: “...the part of the company that I am doing duty with is stationed at this post the other half of our company is in the City of Santa Fe but this is the most desirable place that it has been my lot to do duty at for it is head quarters or supply depot for this department & we also have the drilling & fitting up of the New Mexican Volunteers lately raised & they are full blooded Mexicans & in addition to learning them to drill properly we hope to learn them to speak the American language which is quite a task...” More.
