Autograph Letter Signed, “Delano W. Ives” 15th Connecticut, 6p. octavo, New Berne, North Carolina, May 6, 1864, and reads in part: “...This sending troops home to vote was a big thing...they made out pretty well in old Wallingford, only 118 Dem more than it ever went before. I’m newtural, would not vote either side...At the evacuation of Little Washington...a fire broke out in the city which resulted in leveling two thirds if not more of the beautiful town of W. with the ground leaving women and children without a mouthful to eat or place to lay their heads and instead of bringing whites away they loaded sloop after sloop with niggers...I have seen just all teh nigs I want to, if this government dont look out this nigger business will get the best of them...” Small pressure sensative tape repairs, else VG.
