Autograph Letter Signed, “John F. Harden” 1p. folio, U.S. bark ‘Kuhn’ Pensacola Bay, February 10, 1864, addressed to Rear Admirala D.G. Farragut, Comdg. U G B Squadron, and reads: “...I would most respectfully request that I may be allowed to join in the Expedition now being fitted out under your direction. I have been an Acting Master in the service since August 1861 and have been in the Active Service onbaord the U.S.S. ‘Iroquois’ and am the only Officer at taht time attached to the ‘Iroquois” that has not been promoted although no names were mentioned in the Commanders Official Report I desire promotion and am not averse to the ordeal by which is to be got...” Fine.
