Group of seven (7) Autograph Letters Signed, of Oliver D. Pratt, 1st and 4th Mass. Cavalry, WIA at Olustee, Florida, February 20, 1864, includes covers, they read in small part: “...[Florida, March 16, 1864]We have not had a hack at the gray backs since the 1st day of the month, when they drove us back some seven miles from where we first met them but all that they gained that day they had to fight for. There was only our Batt. and the 40th to two Regts of Infnatry and one of Cav....we only lost 2 men with 4 or 5 wounded and 5 taken prisoners while they lost by their accounts some 40 in killed and wounded...[Appomattox River July 6, 1864]they are bombing away right smart at Petersburg this morning you can hear the shell burst...[Jones Landing, Va. Oct. 15, 1864] our troops advanced and drove the rebs in to their entrenchments near Richmond when I was up there. They were with in about three miles of the city, they could hear the alarm bell sing...” VG. More.
