A good war-date Union sailor's, 2pp. 4to., letter written in ink by Charles Everett, "U. S. S. Fairy, Mound City, Ill., November 13, 1864"to his father concerning carrying Capt. Alexander M. Pennock on the river, and of the recent presidential election, reading, in part: "…[Nov. 13, 64]…to day we have been carrying Capt. Pennock around Cairo to look for coal barges. The river is rising at the rate of five feet per day…if Sammy Wilson takes command of any boat on the sea I can get a good birth…what do you think of the election. This place went for Mac[McClellan] by 20 majority…". Also included is the original stamped transmittal cover. Near fine.
