Autograph Letter Signed, “Z. Paddock Jr.” 48th New York Infantry, 3p. quarto, Office of A.R.Q.M. 48th Regt. In the Field Near Petersburg, July 5, 1864, and reads in part: “...rumor is that things around this point will assume a desperate nature in the shape of sundry explosions & the opening of new heavy Batteries followed up by charges on the Enemies works...Gen. Sherman is goind a good work and slowly but steadily advancing on Atlanta, and we expect soon to hear from them...I am not by any means out of danger, yet am pretty well protected by a sort of bomb proof which my clerks have erected for the past few days but little firing has there been from either side, which indicates a storm after a calm...” About VG.
