Autograph Letter Signed, “O.H. Brinkley Bvt. Col. 110th Ohio Vols, Comdg. Regt.” 2p. octavo, Head Quarters 110th Ohio Vols, April 10, 1865, addressed to Capt. W.L. Shew, and reads in part: “...I have the honor to transmit the following report of enlisted men who by their gallantry and bravery distinguished themselves in the assault on the enemy’s works near Petersburg, Va. April 2, 1865...Segt. Francis McMillan Co. ‘C’ captured one battle flag and one piece of artillery. Private Isaac James Co. ‘H’ captured on battle flag. Corp Keeran McKinney Co. ‘C’ who was the first man to reach and capture a four (4) gun battery...” More. VG. Both McMillan and James were awarded the Medal of Honor for their actions.
