A rare and much sought after war-date newspaper announcing the surrender of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia and the end of the Civil War. A good clean issue of BOSTON DAILY ADVERTISER, April 10, 1865, totaling eight large folio pages. Bold block lettering proclaims: BY TELEGRAM. PEACE! Over a finely engraved winged eagle holding a banner in its beak. The joy at the end of the war is evident with other headlines reading: SURRENDER OF GENERAL LEE AND HIS WHOLE ARMY! TERMS OF THE CAPITULATION. GENERAL PAROLE. Printed on the very day that Lee's army laid down its arms this newspaper gives a full accounting of the joyous events that unfolded just hours before, and is undoubtedly is one of the very first newspapers to send the happy news nation's war-weary people. Interestingly, Edwin Booth is due to appear on stage as Othello just days before his famous brother makes history of his own. Usual toning, and folds, else very good.
