HARDIE, James (1823-1876) Union brigadier general, carried the orders giving George Meade command on the eve of Gettysburg. Autograph Letter Signed, “Jas A. Hardie Ins. Genl.” 1p. octavo, on War Department letterhead, May 9, 1866, Washington City, addressed to Joseph Barrett, Commissioner of Pensions, and reads “ I thank you very sincerely for your kind and prompt attention to the case of the widow of the late Capt. Stevenson, whose pension certificate I have this morning received...” Fine.
