Partly-printed Document, 1p. large folio, 1890, being the service record of Lewis E. Gove, 1st Rhode Island Cavalry and the 16th Veteran Reserves, completly filled out by Gove for the “Post Historian in Preparing the Sketch to be transcribed to the Record Book.” Lists his enlistment & discharge information, as well as his first battle at Fredericksburg and he notes he also fought at Chancellorsville. He also states at the bottom “Our duty was hunting up deserters in the Alleghany Mountains in Country camps and coal mines. Also guarding Rebel Prisoners at Elmira....After deserters in winter of 64 and 65, found them pretty plenty, rather a disagreeable duty, as it was all night work.VG.
