A good WAR FOR THE UNION stereeoview card bearing a double 3" x 6 1/4" albumen image entitled: "Professor Lowe in his Balloon." The image's description reads, in part: "…during the Peninsula Campaign in 1862, the army balloon was a valuable aid in the signal service. This view shows Professor Lowe up in his balloon watching the battle of Fair Oaks…the men at the rope permit the balloon to rise to whatever elevation…then anchor it to a tree…". Published by Taylor & Huntington, Hartford, Conn. on an orange mount. A negligible tear with some lose affects the right panel, some spotting, else very good
