LINCOLN, ABRAHAM (1809 - 1865) Sixteenth President of the United States who led the Union through the Civil War and emancipated the slaves, assassinated. Fine, early A.D.S. "Campbell & Lincoln p.d.", Ip. 7 1/2" x 4", [Menard Co., Ill., ca. June 11, 1845], a plea in one of the ftrst cases Lincoln tried in Menard County. In full: "J. Busher adv. Robert C. Scott In Case And the defendant comes and defends the wrong and injury, when, where, etc., and says he is not guilty in manner and form as the said plaintiff in his declaration hath alleged against him, and of this he puts himself upon the country, &c. Campbell & Lincom p.d.". One horizontal fold, light soiling, els every good. Lavishly matted in red velvet with a ftne 9" oval photographic portrait of Lincoln as president, all set into a fme carved wood frame and ready for display.
