A rare War of 1812 textbook, entitled: "BARBARITIES of the ENEMY exposed in a REPORT of the Committee of the House of Representatives of the United States appointed to enquire into the spirit and manner in which the war has been waged by the enemy and the DOCUMENTS, accompanying said report." Published by Francis Adancourt, Troy, New York, 1813. The front-end page bears the ink inscription: "Russell Eddy Lieut. 25th Infty. Transferred to Lt. A. T. F. Bell." Eddy enrolled in the 25th United States Infantry on May 1, 1812 as an ensign. By 1813, he had risen to lieutenant and resigned on July 1, 1814. The hardbound book is covered calfskin leather and has 178 pages containing every possible complaint an American citizen could levee against the British crown. No doubt these two officers read and reread the text while campaigning against the British. Usual wear, else very good
