King of France, first of the Bourbon line (ruled from 1589 to 1610).Autograph Letter Signed, in French, 1p. quarto, January 18, addressed to Monsieur Maryon, concerning an exemption to be granted to the inhabitants of Ville Franche. He writes: “The extreme desire that I have always had to see of my subjects at rest has resulted at this time in my accordance to the inhabitants of my city Ville Franche an abolition of the place of the death of Lord St. Venson. Forasmuch as I have recently learned from the Lord of Vorquelau, Senechal of the said country, how important it is to my service and peace of the country that it be properly confirmed. I am writing this word to you purposely so that you may take it in hand...this present message does not accomplish any other end.” Small repair, else VG.Possibly the most popular of all French Kings, “Henry the Great’ brought peace and prosperity to France during his reign.
