EDISON, Thomas A. (1847-1931). As inventor of the electric light, the phonograph and the motion picture, Edison's impact on American society is staggering to contemplate. Autograph Quotation Signed, “Thos. A. Edison”, 1p. 1-3/4” inches on a 1p. 6”x2”, c. 1885, Edison has written “Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed be Thy name./Thos. A. Edison” in an extremely minute hand. The story goes that in 1885, Edison was talking in the laboratory with H. deC. Hamilton (later the first person to exhibit the Edison Phonograph in Europe) at two o’clock in the morning. Hamilton remarked that Edison was an unusual penman, whereupon Edison wrote the quote. The sentence is only 1-1/8” long. Fine.
