Cabinet Card of John Durfey appears in this full length portrait with a leather fringed jacket and leggings, holding a rifle in one hand. Durfey is reputed to have arrived in the United States c.1840 and later enlisted in the Union Army. He was captured at Gettysburg and may have been held at Andersonville Prison. He comes to us as a Cowboy Indian fighter and frontiersman, a famed Wild West American figure. Verso inscribed "Grandpa Durfey." Photograph taken by George R. Elliott, who's studio is documented tin the 1871-1872 Columbus, Ohio directory. Approx. 4-1/4" L x 6-1/2" H.
