Vaughn Richard Shoemaker (1902-1991), Carol Stream, Illinois, was an American editorial cartoonist. He won the 1938 and 1947 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning and created the character John Q. Public.Political Cartoon, 13-1/4" x 16-1/4", signed by the artist, "Shoemaker" and published Chicago American, 1968. Titled "INDIANA MOON" illustrates Bobby Kennedy schmoozing Indiana before the Indiana primary. On May 7, Kennedy won with 42 percent of the vote; Branigan was second with 31 percent of the vote; and McCarthy, earning 27 percent, came in third. With this victory in Indiana, Kennedy's campaign gained momentum entering the Nebraska primary.
