Erskine Preston Caldwell (1903-1987) was an American novelist and short story writer. His writings about poverty, racism and social problems in his native Southern United States, in novels such as Tobacco Road (1932) and God's Little Acre (1933) won him critical acclaim. ADS. 1pp. 6 1/4" x 2 3/4". Augusta, Maine. January 4, 1937. A "First National Granite Bank" check signed by Erskine Caldwell and completely engrossed by him. The check has some light toning and punch cancellations that touch the engrossment but not the signature; the overall condition is fine.
