In part, " ... since the surrender of t Lee & Johnson with their armies it is supposed by most people that peace and prosperity will be restored. ... Yet we have no reliable information on Davis or his cabinet ... the last we heard they were going to Texas and Stoneman after them .... continues Friday Morning, May 12, 1865 ... "Our country now mourns as never a nation mourned before in consequence of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln ... ... Should the infernal traitors kill all of our leading men, it would only serve to arouse young America .. to avenge the blood of the loyal slain... There was a deep laid plan to murder many at the time the President was shot but it failed on all but the President .... R.L. Stone."
