Patrick Tighe, (The CW Date Base spells it TIGH) at age 38, enlisted September 3, 1864 at Avon New York, mustering into Company H, 16th NY Cavalry and mustered out May 29, 1865. Tighe was a member of of the detachment of the 16th New York that had the distinction of killing Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth and apprehending accomplice David Herold. Post war, Tighe joined GAR post #235, Avon New York.The impressive 13" x 18" barn wood has two period labels, "GAR Post 235, H.C. Cutler, Avon New York" where Tighe was a member and the donor of the piece. The second label "This barn siding was from the Garnett House where John W. Booth was killed". When the Post closed, c1930, the siding was returned to the Tighe family. The siding has a reproduction April 20, 1865 Reward Poster for the Assassins, 11" x 15". ... plus, Pocket Watch, Reliance by Ingersol with engraved presentation , "Comrade P. Tiche, GAR Post 235. Still ticks. ...plus, All Calvary men carried a hoof pick. Tighe's is present with his initials "P.T." carved in the handle. ... plus, The Saddle Pommel, brass tag, shield shaped with impressed "11-1/2 Inch Seat" with "PT" stamped on the reverse. ... plus, A long 15" chain ending with a clover which is engraved "16 NYC" and on the reverse is imprinted "P. Tiche". ..., plus, Commemorative Lincoln pinback by "Bastian Bros. Co., Rochester, New York, Mfr's of ribbon, metal, and celluloid novelties." The 1-1/2" color printed pinback is affixed to a 4" mourning black silk rosette. Fine. nd c1909. ... plus, An enameled New York Delegate's metal badge, "GAR 39th Annual Encampment, June 21-22 1905, Syracuse NY." ... plus, (2) GAR Veteran's Badges, ... plus, GAR button, ... plus (3) associated CDVs including waist up Lincoln image with imprint on mount, "Published by M. O'Brien, 122 Dearborn St. Chicago". "John Wilkes Booth" printed on the mount, 3/4 standing view dressed like a star. And, Handsome actor CDV of Frank Hardenburg, backmark Fall River, Mass. ..., plus, Three printed books about Booth: "Right or Wrong, God Judge Me", hardback, 1997, presentation copy by Louise Taper.; "Escape & Capture of John Wilkes Booth", paperback, 1983; "The Death of Lincoln" paperback, 1972. ... plus, A Three Ring Notebook stuffed with articles, copies of Booth play bills, copies of unique auction items ... all related to Boot. Great find.
