Turner Ashby Jr. (1828-1862) was an American officer. He was a Confederate cavalry commander in the Civil War, assigned to the Virginia Militia command of Colonel Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, whom he had met at Harpers Ferry and Charles Town in 1859. On June 6, 1862, near Harrisonburg, the 1st New Jersey Cavalry attacked Ashby's position at Good's Farm. Although Ashby defeated the cavalry attack, the following infantry engagement resulted in his horse being shot, so Ashby charged ahead on foot. After only a few steps, he was shot through the heart, killing him instantly.Hugh Ramsey Thompson Koontz who enlisted on 8/1/1861 he mustered into "K" Co. VA 7th Cavalry and was Wounded 10/7/1864 Mt. Clifton, VA (Mortally wounded), died 10/7/1864 Document Signed, "Turner Ashby" on partially printed Special Requisition, 10" x 8" on Confederate tan paper, December 12, 1862, listing requests of Two pounds white lead, One quart Flaxseed oil, ... etc. The document is aslo approved by Captained Koontz.
