A 36" wood shaft cane finishes with a two piece metal handle. When the top of the handle is pulled, it exposed a complicated cylindrical slide rule. Additional scales are exposed when one lifts the bronze top with indicates ""Made in England". The slide rule is also maker ID'd "Carbic Ltd. in London". Heritage sold one of these canes for $4687.50, October 6, 2013, lot# #62841.Otis Carter Formby King (1876-1944) was an electrical engineer in London who invented and produced a cylindrical slide rule with helical scales, primarily for business uses initially. The product was named Otis King's Patent Calculator, and was manufactured and sold by Carbic Ltd. in London from about 1922 to about 1972.
