An early Confederate post master's application, 2pp. 4to., letter, written by L. G. Drake, Marion, Ala., April 25, 1861, to Alabama Governor Andrew B. Moore, reading, in part: "Fearing that…the press of business…is daily crowding upon you in these exciting times…you might possibly forget the promises you so kindly made…when you was about leaving our depot, for Montgomery…that you would return to Montgomery, use your influence with the Post Master General for…obtaining me the appointment of Mail Agent in the Confederate States…Post Office department. I write…for the purpose of refreshing your memory…on the subject of my appointment, giving me your opinion as to my chance for success…your friend, L. G. Drake." Overall near fine.
