James Buchanan Jr. (1791-1868) was the 15th president of the United States, serving from 1857 to 1861. He also served as the secretary of state from 1845 to 1849. After Lincoln's election, Buchanan directed Secretary of War John B. Floyd to reinforce southern forts with such provisions, arms, and men as were available; however, Floyd persuaded him to revoke the order. Free Frank Cover "Free James Buchanan" addressed to Charles Manchester, Esq., Philadelphia. Manchester was a prominent banker.
