This is a Copper Plate Engraved Portrait of General Robert Howe (1732-1786), American Continental Army General who served in the Carolinas and the Hudson Valley during the Revolutionary War. General Howe was a member of the military commission that found British Major John Andr guilty of Spying during the General Benedict Arnold treason. The print measures 4.25" x 7.75" sharply printed upon handmade period rag paper, some printing bleed of text on blank reverse, outline of the print plate lightly embossed in the page. Withdrawn from “Murray’s History of the American War.” a book on the history of the American Revolution, published in England in 1779. A gorgeous, historic print for display.
