Bill of lading for the "Ship Hope" partly printed, 2p. oblong 16"x6-¼", March 3, 1828, Savannah, being a list of items "Imported by Robert Campbell for John Bones, in the Ship Hope, whereof G. Morce is Master, from Liverpool…" These manufactured items include: sheet iron, hoop iron, anvils, scythes, knives, and sickles. Two packages are marked "Damaged." The total duty was $378.53. Signed on verso by Campbell. VG. John Bones (1792-1870) with the former mayor of Augusta and two other gentleman organized the Augusta Manufacturing Company in 1847. By 1849 the Augusta factory was producing 32,000 yards of cloth a week and had intentions of increasing the amount of 50,000.
