A used soldier's ballot from Binton (penciled over the printed MORROW) County, Ohio from the 1864 U.S. presidential election, ca. November 8, 1864. Below a handsome printed female allegorical representation of "Liberty" holding an American flag and a sword labeled "Union," the candidates of the Union Presidential Ticket are displayed as "For President, Abraham Lincoln of Illinois" and "For Vice President, Andrew Johnson, of Tennessee." The names of the state's 21 Electors are listed below. 3" x 7-1/2".Lincoln defeated McClellan 212 Electoral College Votes to 21, and 55% of the popular vote to 45%. Up until the summer of 1864, President Lincoln was confident that he would lose reelection. Yet Union victories in Atlanta and Cedar Creek, as well as impressive soldier voting turnout, ensured Abe's victory despite war fatigue.
