Union soldier's 4pp. letter written by Alonzo Vankirk who on 4/24/1861 he mustered into "G" Co. PA 18th Infantry and was Mustered Out on 8/7/1861 at Philadelphia, PA. Dateline, Baltimore, May 28, 1861 on patriotic stationary. In part, "We are still at Freedom Hill ... we have taken more arms, powder, caps, uniforms and we intend to take everything we can get a hold of in Baltimore or die trying to.... I guess we'll stay on Federal Hill so as to keep Baltimore straight. For if we leave it will be upside down again ... the plugs are going to form a regiment of their own as soon as the election is over which is the 16th of next month, in favor of the Union ...."
