A good Union soldier's battle letter, 3pp. 8vo., written on "the Star Spangled Banner Must Be Upheld" patriotic stationery by Pvt. Adam S. Brey, Co. H, 32nd Pennsylvania (3rd Reserves) Volunteers, "Camp Pierpont, Va., Dec. 24, 1861, to his father, reading, in part: "-a battle between the Rebels and General McCall's forces near Drainseville [occurred] about 15 miles from our camp on Friday the 20th of Dec.. General McCall is commander in our division but the battle was over about one hour before we came. The Rebels retreated [and there were] about too hundred killed and wounded of them. Our loss [was] six killed and forty wounded - and a number of prisoners from the Rebels- Adam S. Brey, Camp Pierpont, Virginia, Co. H, 3d Regiment, P. R. V. C. - I hope to see you again - I hope we can stop this Rebellion soon again and hope the flag that our forefather's died nobly to save shall never go down over liberty grave and the star that light [the] Union shall never set . The Stars and Stripes shall wave over America forever." Negligible spots, else VG
