Complete set of 20 Szyk color illustrations on stiff cardstock, 4 x 6", printed in Poland, with postcard mailing format (unused) on verso, complete original envelope The last major exhibition of Szyk's works before the outbreak of World War II was the presentation of his paintings at the 1939 New York World's Fair, which opened in April 1939 in New York.[24] The Polish Pavilion prominently featured Szyk's twenty-three paintings depicting the contribution of the Poles to the history of the United States; many works specifically highlighted the historic political connections between the two countries, as if to remind the viewer that Poland remained a suitable ally in a turbulent time. These twenty images were reproduced as postcards in Krak=w in 1938 and were available for sale. Arthur Szyk (1894-1951) was a Polish-Jewish artist who worked primarily as a book illustrator and political artist throughout his career.
