c. 1760 Colonial Era, Early Antique 18th Century decorative Hand-Wrought Iron Betty Lamp Lantern Hook Spike, Fine. This is a nice example of a decorative 18th century Lighting Support Hook measuring 5.25" in length deep x 5.75” tall. All Hand-wrought, blacksmith made. As you can see the blacksmith who originally made the piece worked in a great decorative elements that the center of the piece has a twist shaft working its way to an upward leaf shaped design. There are three off flanking “curls” to the right side and two to the left suggesting that one of the left may have been lost in time. Overall the piece is in very good condition with some expected surface age roughness and patina. It has an interesting very slight bend to the end of the spike as is typical on these hooks from actual use when driven into wood. Original, not cleaned as the natural blackened surface gives a great rustic appeal.
