Belonged to (Nathan) "Delos Whitman, Hancock Mass", 2-1/2" x 1-1/4' in very attractive curved lettering and pierced artist elements. Whitman enlisted on 5/18/1861 as a 1st Lieutenant and was discharged on 1/3/1863. His company arrived at South Mountain after the battle of Sept. 14, but at Antietam, Sept. 17, it was heavily engaged near the Bloody Lane with loss.
